Before we get to the peaches, doesn't she look guilty? She's not (this time) - the leaves of the corn stalks are slightly scratchy and at just the right height for running through, plus the weeds are great for snacking on.

Today was peach picking! Granted, I had completely forgotten it was my birthday today until someone reminded me late yesterday afternoon, but peach picking was an awesome way to spend it!

We (as in D and I) headed over to Eschelman's in Clyde, Ohio to pick Redhaven peaches.

It didn't take us long, especially with the two of us. D reported that the riper ones were higher up, apparently where other folks hadn't reached. I left him to those and mostly picked firmer fruit.

That box on the scale is one of our four and is holding a half bushel which, yes, equals 25 pounds. If you do the math, that equals... um, 100 pounds of peaches. *cough*

Peaches spread out over an entire kitchen table, with a few cooling racks allowing for a second layer.

So this is what a bushel of peaches looks like. Of course, we came home with two bushels.

A four shelf seed starting set-up repurposed to hold more peaches on the top and middle shelf, several piles of books, a number of canning jars, and a dehydrator. Oh, and a pickling jar.

So the other half of them are on the currently re-purposed seed starting shelves.

Not that they've been sorted yet or anything, but at least they're spread out so I don't have something rotting in the bottom of a box that I don't know about. Now if I just weren't so itchy! I'm not sure whether I forgot to take my Claritin last night or I'm allergic to something they use at the orchard, but I didn't have this reaction last time (not to say there wasn't something different this time around). It's not terrible, there was just a bit of a rash on my arms for a while, which I've been known to get from picking things in my own garden, and really itchy eyes and face even after washing them off. No swelling, and almost no sneezing even, so I'm not worried. Just... itchy.

Mostly it's giving me an excuse to put the laundry and trip to town off until tomorrow. *g*

eta: Forgot to add, it worked out to $0.64/pound, so not a bad deal. :)
