The garden is growing, which is good. The potato buckets are doing particularly well with several of them already filled up with soil as the leaves have crested the rim. A friend commented on the leaf spot I talked about earlier, noting that it looked like possible pesticide/herbicide over-blow. By the time I had the chance (a dry enough day) to spray, the plants were already showing improvement. Once I started thinking about it, well, I knew something had blown over from the neighboring field since I'd been out there when it was happening and it had made my eyes and throat itch along with irritating my sinuses. Considering it was the day I planted the peppers, it would make sense that they'd be the most affected, especially when you take into account the air currents.

So as of right now, I'm not fighting leaf spot at all, most of the garden is putting on fresh leaves that are not affected (the peppers are still struggling a bit, but hanging in there), and I didn't even have to spray the copper. Copper is approved for organic use but it can still be tough on young plants, so not having to use it is a good thing. \o/

The radishes were struggling in their container and I had need of the soil for the potato buckets (I'm out again!), so they were pulled. The lettuce and carrots continue to grow, however, and I have no idea what the beets are doing. They're growing and healthy! They just don't have beet sized roots, which may be due to spending too long in their trays in the greenhouse since the weather delayed planting. I planted some more in the garden the same day I put the peppers out, but they've not shown above the soil yet.

The beans are looking good, the cucumbers are finally putting on their second set of leaves that have a much healthier appearance, and much of the corn is a few inches high. I'd like to see the tomatoes putting on more growth, but that's probably my impatience talking. I was out pulling off flowers again yesterday as they keep trying to get ahead of themselves.

Really, I'm just glad to still have a garden considering the weather yesterday. A number of tornadoes touched down in northwest Ohio and a couple did some major damage in our county - to the north in Millbury/Lake Township especially. The Lake Township police department/administration building sustained heavy damage as did their high school and many homes were damaged or even completely destroyed. I believe the current death toll stands at 7 people.

We experienced nothing more than plenty of distant lightning and some light rain, for which I'm very thankful. We had the close (1/2 mile) brush with a tornado touching down earlier this spring that brought with it strong winds, heavy rain, and hail.
