Dry at Last!

bluesgardenThe farmers are scrambling to plant or re-plant their fields before any potential rain this evening. Considering things are easily a month behind for many people, it's no wonder there's so much farm equipment going past. The corn that did survive is only a couple inches tall; it has time to ripen, but those farmers accustomed to the accelerated growth of the new hybrids are going to be sweating bullets this fall anyway.
The heat index is at 94°F outside, so I'm inside and avoiding it for a couple more hours. Tomorrow and Monday are my planting days!! D's working on finalizing his part of the garden prep today (this morning and later this evening), weather depending. There's a possibility of a thunderstorm between 5pm - 8pm, so we'll see how much it rains, if at all - there was also a possibility for this morning that never materialized. Everything in the greenhouse is holding, including the tomatoes, although it's all more than ready to go out. I watered everything yesterday evening and I'll do it again for the larger plants tonight. I cut the seed potatoes earlier that needed it so their cut sides will have a day or two to dry off.
My brain's still a little fried from the past week, although it all went better than I expected and I (obviously) survived. Now I'm just waiting for the heat to die back, for the chance of rain to pass (one way or the other), for D to finish the last minute tilling, for all the sleep I've gotten since late yesteday afternoon to actually catch up with me so I don't feel like I'm going to keel over at any minute, for the hot water heater replacement to arrive (due Monday), and for all the other madness to hopefully resolve itself with time.
