Onions and leeks under the lights.

This little oddball is, theoretically, a Chocolate pepper plant. Except that he came up in something like three days, and not single one of the others have appeared yet after eight days. Rummaging carefully about the soil yesterday, I found they were in the first stages of germination, which wasn't surprising considering they've had no cover to keep them warmer (because of the tomatoes they're sharing a flat with) and no bottom heat either. So what's the story with this little guy? I have no idea at this point, but it will be interesting to see how he develops.

On the other side of the flat are the tomatoes. Here they're under the lights, showing off their first true leaves.

Tonight I'll thin out the smaller/weaker/extra ones so there's only one seedling in each cell.

The onions are quite robust this year - I suspect it has to do with available room as much as anything. Still, after losing them all last year, I'm glad to see it.

A Red Wethersfield onion looking particularly vibrant on a gray day.

Leeks? Leeks, anyone? Both these and the onions had haircuts after picture taking. They're still up to the lights, but don't look quite so much like they're making a break for the (very sodden) garden.
